The Internet Debate

I was doing some research about the internet and how information is shared via the internet. I found this website which gave a lot of information regarding different views about sharing information on the internet http://www.nap.edu/html/infosys_env/knauer.html Internet Global Environmental Information Sharing by JOSHUA KNAUER and MAURICE RICKARD.

I would like to comment briefly on the positive effects of the internet. I agree with the article, and believe the internet is a valuable and growing resource for the US and many other countries. The internet provides an inexpensive way to obtain information and connect with other people and groups around the world.

I think that the "New" and "Old" models of information sharing that the article describes are quite interesting. I agree that the "Old Model" of information sharing, from televison, radio, newspapers, etc. was mainly a one-to-many type of information distribution. Though the "New Model" of information sharing (the internet) is less of a one-to-many enterprise, I think that it still operates in much the same way as television, radio, and newspapers once did. Major corporations, such as Google, and varios media empires, such as CNN, filter what they place on the internet, much like they do for television. Many internet users simply accept this information that they see on the web, without posting comments or their own points of view. Perhaps this will change in the future, as people become more accustomed to using the internet, but for now, the internet does not seem to be the perfect many-to-many information sharing tool.

Here's one way information is carried (virally) across the net:

a great blog traffic generating tool: Blogrush! I use it too!
